Carmen Jones
Oscar Hammerstein II's all-black revision of Bizet's "Carmen," brought to the screen by Otto Preminger, showcases Harry Belafonte as a handsome soldier whose love for sexy, conniving Dorothy Dandridge leads him to murder. Pearl Bailey, Olga James and Diahann Carroll also star in this classic, a much-requested film at Movies Unlimited. 105 min.

Widescreen (Enhanced); Soundtracks: English Dolby Digital 4.0, Dolby Digital Surround; Subtitles: English, Spanish; theatrical trailer; interactive menus; scene access. Amazon.usa Amazon.uk Amazon.ca
What I like
very much about this one is how, just like in a stage opera, people stand there singing to each other about their most intimate feelings at the top of their voices, while nobody in the crowd milling around them seems to notice a thing.
A weird convention, that — Preminger seems to feel the same way. And why must operas be so horribly melodramatic?
The first movie titles by Saul Bass.
