The Geibikei Gorge

Geibikei Gorge

This must look more popularly impressive covered with snow, or surrounded by lush greenery.
However, on this murky, gloomy day it took on a special quality.

You are taken upstream in a flat-bottomed boat. We were the only two passengers, feeling and surely looking rather foolish. The boats man was full of information, and as advertised started singing on the way back, downstream. (Upstream no doubt he needed his breath for other purposes.) Not bad, but his bird calls really were better - he even fooled some of the birds.

The gorge, he told us, was the result of an earthquake a long time ago. It looks it.

Even with the very real differences, all in all still strongly reminiscent of the river trip we took in Jamaica.
